SURTEX 2012 designext Winners
Kirby Smith is originally from Coatesville, PA, now living in Savannah, GA studying at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Kirby is currently a senior and will graduate with a BFA in Fibers in June 2012. She recently interned with Target as a print and pattern designer, where she will be starting full time after graduation in June.
Kirby was also awarded the Grand Prize at SURTEX 2012.
Suzanne Lefebvre is a New York State based designer who is currently at the Rochester Institute of Technology finishing her BFA in interior and graphic design. Her love of both three-dimensional and two-dimensional design has enabled her to combine the two, to truly develop the built environment and shape the idea of place. Suzanne not only hopes to specialize in interior design, but to also design textiles, wall coverings, lighting, and flooring for the commercial industry. Suzanne is a LEED Green Associate and is a member of both the AIGA and IIDA.
Tai Lin Hsieh, also known as "Mixer", was born in Kaohsiung, the second largest city in Taiwan. Currently a student at Academy of Art University in San Franisco, Mixer tries to stay current and mix modern elements from what he see's around him living in a major city. "Accordingly when I came to America for studies I took on the English name Mixer, because I always feel happiest whenever I am mixing different elements that inspire me, re-interpreting them and creating an artist piece/collection that captures my vision. Textile/surface design has always provided me with an outlet whereby I can bring my vision to reality…"
Poppy Maxfield is from Lincolnshire Countryside, England, currently in her third year studying Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern design at Leeds College of Art. Poppy enjoys working with unusual themes inspired by nature around us. She produces hand drawn and handcrafted pieces that can then be translated and developed through a digital means to create interesting, bold outcomes. "I have a key interest in the use of text and typography within my work and I am inspired and influenced by sayings, rhymes, vintage books and dictionary meanings. I create designs primarily for the interiors market, with a vision to bring both nature and nostalgia into our homes."
