2014 designext winners


Jenny Boucher grew up in the country north of Toronto where she spent time with her family learning how to sew and make clothing.  Jenny previously pursued an education in Fashion Studies at Parsons, the New School for Design to learn the technical skills of creating and designing garments.  She is currently a 3rd year student at Ontario College of Art & Design, studying Material Arts & Design.  Constantly inspired by surface design techniques, Jenny aspires to work at a major fashion house as an internal textile designer and eventually develop her own fashion label with a focus on incredible textiles and beautifully executed surface design techniques.




Samantha Mast, originally from Grand Rapids, MI is currently a junior at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI studying Crafts with an emphasis on Textile Design.  Through traveling the United States, Samantha has gained awareness of personal and societal connections which enriches the concepts of her artwork.  Samantha has been an active leader in the student body by participating in Student Government as a Representative for her department and as a Treasurer on the Executive Board.  After graduation Samantha plans to focus her design career on color, trim, pattern and materials.




Tori McLean is a printed textiles and surface pattern designer in her 3rd year at the Winchester School of Art in the UK, where she is completing a BA in Fashion & Textile Design.  She has won numerous textile awards for her work including one in B&Q’s British Talent Search 2013.  Tori’s work has been featured in Elle Decoration and many of her winning designs have been put in production.  After graduation, Tori hopes to use her drawing talents, CAD skills and knowledge of different printable substrates to start her own freelance business working for the UK and internationally based textile agents.

Tori was named the 2014 designext Grand Prize Winner at SURTEX. 




Karina Rasmussen grew up in a Danish household with her parents and two sisters in Pleasanton, CA.  Karina developed her interest in art and design while completing an International Baccalaureate in Denmark, which encouraged her to move to London.  After this move, she attended a foundations course in art, design and architecture at Kingston University, which then led to a passion in textiles.  She is currently a senior at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, studying Textile Design.  Karina plans to enhance her skills and discover new design practices through experience and is ready to face new challenges in the future.
