LOVEmonkey A Hit
RAG is happy to report that the universal appeal and versatility of his LOVEmonkey design is creating a demand that has RAG’s R & D department working overtime to fill. Royalty reports from Great Arrow Greeting Card Company indicate that the Monkey is a best seller. RAG has created more Monkey designs for various everyday and occasional greeting cards.
Based on that good Monkey news, Peggy Karr Glass has licensed the design for use on giftware plates. The plates hit the market in January. RAG has also inked deals for LOVEmonkey to appear on bookmarks for Antioch Publishing, doormats and luggage tags for High Cotton, and is in development for products at various other companies.
And if that’s not enough, a yet-to-be-named series based on the monkey design is in the works at RAG’s monkey headquarters. This monkey has legs! |

Susie Studio Grows Up With Kid-Focused Art
Artist Susie Lee Jin has nurtured her company Susie Studio from a seedling idea into a successful art licensing business. Since its official launch less than two years ago, Susie Studio has established itself as a competitive brand with a niche in juvenile products. Licensees include Galway Company for garden flag art at Lowes and DGInvent!ve for kids invitations and thank you cards available at Target in the coming year. Other deals include Jin’s line of Honeybear pop-up cards with Legacy Publishing Group and a gift book with Harvest House Publishers, both slated for release in January 2009.
“Susie Studio has really blossomed since 2005,” says Jin. “I started from scratch and am confident that I’ve built a strong foundation for my new art licensing business.”
The October 2007 issue of KOREAM JOURNAL features an interview with Jin about her life as a professional artist. Jin also documents her newbie art licensor experiences at her blog at www.susieleejin.com. There aspiring art licensors will find information, encouragement, and maybe a laugh in Jin’s candid journal entries about growing her art licensing career. Of particular interest are her foils and footholds as a first-timer at both Surtex and Licensing Shows.
“Now that I’ve learned the ropes, Susie Studio definitely will continue to be a presence in the art licensing industry,” says Jin. “I’m looking forward to running Susie Studio and forging more great licensing partnerships over the next twenty years.”
